How to avoid dissappointment when clients don’t show up

How to avoidDo you hold this secret dream?
You prepared a brochure, or maybe some beautiful postcards, talking about what you do. You took up all the courage you had and left them everywhere you could think of: yoga centers, health food stores, you name it.

Now fingers crossed, hopefully those brochures will make its magic and clients will start showing up… except that days pass by and no one shows up!
So now your mind enters in this frentic loop: “Oh, no! I’m a failure! Nobody wants what I have to offer! I’m not good enough. I need to take more classes, I need better credentials!”

Does this story sound familiar? Because if it does I have a little secret for you.

But before I tell you, please RELAX! Take a nice deep breath in, and listen:

You are just fine as a healer, as a therapist, as a coach... You ARE good enough. There is nothing personal about you here. And now let me share my little secret with you, ready?

You have just been blindfolded by what I call: “Will-you-marry-me-on-the first-date syndrome”

I know your heart longs for more clients. Not only you really, really want to help more people, but the income will also bring some support for you and your family. I hear you. I’ve been there, too. But hiring someone is a very vulnerable process that can not be rushed.

Remember the last time you asked for help? And I mean professional help.
How long did it take you until you decided it was the right thing to do?

Most probably than not, you took your time to know her. Maybe you found an article somewhere, then visited her website, or attended a free talk.

Asking for help to another human being is very vulnerable act: “Do we feel safe enough to openly share our issues with her? Does she seem knowledgeable enough about my problem?” Until you are able to answer those questions to your satisfaction, you aren’t ready to move ahead and hire her.

Well, I have news for you. Now you are at the other end of the relationship. And it’s your turn to build the connection, trust and safety.

*What sequence of “connection” activities could you put in place
so they get to know you better?
*How can you demonstrate your expertice in a way that’s useful  (and free) for them?

Final thought: Stop setting yourself up for disappointment and start sharing from your heart until you build a relationship with the very people you are meant to help.
